Cheras 2 1/2 mls temples – a point of convergence

The heritage of Cheras 2 1/2 miles is survived by three temples and a Tamil school and nothing else. The smaller Muniswarar temple has already been built and is operating and catering to a particular crowd among the former people of Cheras 2 1/2 miles. The worship and activities at this temple are reminiscent of the beginnings of life in the Kuala Lumpur municipal council workers’ quarters dating back more than 150 years. The other two temples, the Thogaiadi Vinayar Alayam, the main temple of the area and the Sri Kaliswaran Alayam, the latest temple and cultural centre of the area are nearing completion scheduled for the first quarter of next year. When all three temples are in full operation, the move to unite them will have to begin. This will be a true challenge given the mindsets of the individuals running the committees of these temples. Let’s take up the challenge and hope for the good.
