This blog is in recognition of Cheras 2 1/2 miles Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) quarters which helped mold many artistic people including me and my family.

cheras tales

The Cheras 2 1/2 mile city council (DBKL) quarters is no more having been torn down and replaced with high rise apartment blocks. The only reminder is the Tamil school and two temples which have been somehow saved by the residents. The city council clinic has been replaced by a full scale hospital in the vicinity. These facilities currently serve as the meeting place for the residents whose families have lived in the area for almost three generations.
With only their memories of the colourful life that flourished in the area, the residents have a lot to talk about whenever they meet while attending the festivals at the temples or bringing their children to the school or their aged parents who still qualify to receive treatment at the DBKL hospital.
Most of the younger generation who have upgraded themselves to earn non-menial jobs are spread all around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor having bought houses at the various housing projects there. So their link to the Cheras 2 1/2 miles DBKL quarters is almost severed except for the gatherings at their remaining heritage buildings.
There was an effort to set up a website to serve as a virtual village for the former residents of Cheras 2 1/2 miles DBKL quarters but this fell flat.
I now hope to revive this project through this blogsite.
